Concerned about your Memory
If you are concerned about your memory you should initially visit your GP for an assessment. We understand that this can be a worrying experience but there are many reasons why you should do so, for example:
1. You may not have dementia. An assessment will consider other possible causes of your symptoms
2. Once diagnosed you may be entitled to a whole range of financial help including Council Tax discount and attendance or carer’s allowance
3. You will be able to obtain access to the right support, which could include attending suitable social groups and activities
4. You may be entitled to a variety of dementia support workers
5. You will be entitled to travel assistance on buses which will help promote your independence
6. You will have access to specialist treatment and vaccinations
7. Your carer or spouse will also have access to a range of support and guidance
8. You will have access to technical equipment to aid independent living
9. You will be entitled to an annual health care review
10. Obtaining a diagnosis empowers you to take control of your life, to know what is happening to you, and to plan for the future
