What do we do?
Our purpose is to enthuse and educate businesses and organisations to join the DAA. We do this by offering Dementia Friends awareness sessions, advising on and supporting dementia friendly activities, environments and policies, and sharing these initiatives.
70% of people living with dementia continue to live at home. The overreaching aim of the B&NES DAA is to create a dementia friendly community by removing barriers and help people continue to:-
- travel on public transport
- enjoy sport, cinema and other recreational activities
- go shopping
- run errands
- visit places of worship
- manage day-to-day tasks
We do this by raising awareness so as to make it easier for those living with dementia to remain in their community for as long as possible. We consult people living with dementia, and work with councillors, groups and services to establish what is important to people living with dementia, and identify what they and their carers need in the way of support.
We work with Dementia Friend Champions to make as many Dementia Friends as we can in the B&NES area. We also act as a signposting service for those living with dementia and their carers, offering in our booklet a list of suitable services and activities (see below).
